The Wednesday Child – the new award winning Hungarian movie in the theaters
Lili Horváth’s first feature film, The Wednesday Child premiered in Hungary on the 3rd of December. Hungarian Filmlab proudly took part in the post-production of the movie, which proved to be a great success at the international festival scene, getting attention and great reviews from the critics. The movie achieved various nominations and awards, including the Grand Prize and the crtitic’s choice at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Picture in Kalkota and the award for best direction at Cottbus Film Festival, Germany.
The unique, coming-of-age drama tells the story of the life of a young, orphan girl who has to become a mother, although she never had a mother figure in her life. Maja (wonderfully acted by Kinga Vecsei) is a 19-year-old teenager fighting for the custody of her 4-year-old son, living in foster care. While she is battling with her feelings for the child’s father she finds a new opportunity to earn her a living and to even find real love at the hopeless place where she lives. Maja finally starts to take the control over her life and decisions and meets a man who believes in her for the first time in her life.
„This is a story of a unique love triangle with Maja in the centre, as a young teenage mother. The film deals with the question of fate repeating itself. Do we repeat our parents’ choices and live our lives to their expectations or do we have our own choice to break the vicious cycle?” – said Lili Horváth, director of the movie.
