Merry-Go-Round again in Cannes after 60 years
The 4K restored digital copy of Zoltán Fábri’s Merry-Go-Round (1956) was presented with great success at the Cannes Film Festival’s Cannes Classics on May 19th.
The restoration of the film started at the beginning of this year at the Hungarian Filmlab. It was part of the „Long-term restoration programme of the Hungarian film heritage” of the Hungarian Film Fund – Hungarian National Film Archive. The restoration using the original image and sound negatives, the original interpositive, and a contemporary print as sources, was carried out under the supervision of the Hungarian National Film Archive, in collaboration with the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers (HSC), supported by the Hungarian Academy of Arts. The restoration process was supervised by Eszter Fazekas, color grading supervisor was cinematographer Gábor Szabó.
